Hope, In 3/4 Time
by A. Gerber/B. Ford ©2013 Yumen Music (BMI)
I’ve lived past the age and desire
to ask all the questions,
as if I could form them,
as if they could spill
from my mouth
in actual words.
I’ve lived past the age and desire
to know all the answers,
as if I could read them,
as if I could hold
even one
in this open hand.
I’m hoping I’m old enough now
to celebrate mystery,
to honor its presence
in the grand and the small.
I’m hoping I’m old enough now
to rise above history
and simply rejoice
being part of it all.
I’ve lived past the age and desire
to seek out the trappings.
How our lives have been mapped
with trappings to find,
to cherish
and lose ourselves in.
I’ve lived past the age and desire
to go about winning,
as if life were for winning,
as if I could push
my way
to an ultimate prize.
I’m hoping I’m old enough now
to seek a simplicity,
to see it within
the grand and the small.
I’m hoping I’m old enough now
to find my security
lies in rejoicing
and being a part of it all.
I’ve reached the age and desire
to focus on peace,
on peace and goodwill
to men, women and children,
to forests and rivers
on earth.
I’ve reached the age and desire
to live in the moment,
so many moments
to relish the beauty
that enters the sorrows
of life.
I’m hoping I’m old enough now
to set aside differences,
to see what’s the same
in the grand and the small.
I’m old enough now
I’m old enough now
to know I will die.
So for now I’ll rejoice
being part of it all.
I’m old enough now
I’m old enough now
To offer my voice
So today I’ll rejoice
Being part of it all
I’m old enough now
I’m old enough now
