The Boogie Man

A long time ago when I was just a little boy
That funky old upright was my number one source of joy
I was five years old when my uncle taught me to play
That boogie-woogie blues that still sounds good today
I went off to school, everybody had to go
By the end of the day I couldn’t take anymore
I had to rock, I had to roll
I had to stomp and shout to satisfy my soul
There was no question, I did not need an exam
‘Cause I knew all along I was born to be a boogieman
Yeah Deep in my bones I was born to be a boogieman
There’s no fancy machine to answer my telephone
When it rings and rings and rings, there’s nobody home
I haven’t plugged in to the digital techno hype
I’m not on the Internet, I can’t even type
But give me a room full of folks who need to dance
And there’s no doubt about it, they’ll get their chance
I’m gonna rock, I’m gonna roll
I’m gonna stomp and shout to satisfy my soul
There’s just one thing I really understand
I knew all along I was born to be a boogieman
That deep in my bones I was born to be a boogieman
No aerobic machine or personal trainer alive
Could keep my motor hummin’ in overdrive
Like when I rock and when I roll
And when I stomp and shout to satisfy my soul
I’m on the right track and doin’ the best I can
‘Cause I knew all along I was born to be a boogieman
Yeah deep in my bones I was born to be a boogieman
Take a look at me now mamma I’m just an old boogieman
Yes I am, yes I am
I like to boogie I like to rock and roll
And sometimes I need to blow off steam
‘Cause I’m certified, I’m qualified
I was born to be a boogieman, I was born to boogie
I was born to be a boogieman, I was born to boogie
