Job Description

A full-semester contract position is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide professional interpreting services within a K-12 school environment in Keyser, WV. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring clear and effective communication between hearing-impaired students, educators, and staff, fostering an inclusive and supportive educational setting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Facilitate accurate and complete sign language interpreting between students, teachers, and staff in classroom and school activities
• Support communication during related school events, meetings, and extracurricular activities as needed
• Collaborate with educators and support personnel to maximize educational access for hearing-impaired students
• Maintain confidentiality and abide by professional ethical standards
• Adapt interpretations to diverse educational settings and individual student needs

Qualifications:

• Proficient fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Formal training and certification as a Sign Language Interpreter preferred
• Experience interpreting in educational settings, particularly K-12, is highly desirable
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
